Purpose of the Role
Build and scale IITG-TIC into a nationally significant incubation platform that converts deep-tech research into market-ready ventures, mobilizes funding, and drives regional and national innovation outcomes.
About IITG-TIC
IITG-TIC nurtures technology-led startups from lab to market through incubation, mentoring, investor and industry connects, IP/tech-transfer support, and access to labs and pilot facilities. Priority domains typically include water & energy, environment, healthcare, advanced manufacturing/materials, AI/analytics, and allied areas.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Governance
- Formulate and execute a 3–5 year strategy and annual operating plans approved by the TIC Governing Board/Director, IIT Guwahati.
- Define admission, graduation, equity/grant policies, and portfolio governance; institute transparent selection and review mechanisms.
Fundraising & Partnerships
- Secure grants and programs with central/state agencies (e.g., DPIIT, DST/DBT/MeitY, MSME), CSR, multilaterals, and foundations.
- Build investor networks (angels, seed, venture funds) and corporate innovation partnerships; negotiate MoUs and program co-funding.
Programs & Portfolio
- Design and run pre-incubation, incubation, acceleration, and sector-specific cohorts; ensure high-quality mentoring and market access.
- Oversee IP, licensing, and tech-transfer pathways in coordination with institute entities; facilitate pilots with industry and government.
Operations & Finance
- P&L ownership; budget planning, compliance, audits, and risk management as per institute norms and applicable regulations.
- Optimize infrastructure utilization (co-working, labs, pilot/demo assets); maintain safety and statutory compliance.
Team & Culture
- Build a high-performing team (programs, partnerships, finance/legal, communications); institute OKRs and performance-linked incentives.
- Champion founder-first culture, inclusion, and ethical conduct.
Communication & Brand
- Position IITG-TIC as a leading deep-tech hub; drive thought leadership, events, demo days, and media outreach.
Strategic Initiatives
- Lead scale-up initiatives and ecosystem collaborations; coordinate with institute units and, where applicable, interfaces with a research-park ecosystem.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science; Master’s in Engineering/Management or equivalent preferred.
- Over 12 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles within startups, venture investment, corporate innovation, or technology scaling
- Demonstrated success in raising grants/equity/CSR, closing strategic partnerships, and delivering multi-stakeholder programs.
Competencies
- Strategic planning, stakeholder management (academia–industry–investors–government), and negotiation.
- Strong financial acumen, governance/compliance orientation, and risk management.
- Understanding of IP, tech-transfer, regulatory pathways, and deep-tech commercialization.
- Excellent communication and public representation skills.
Desirable
- Founder/CXO experience in a technology startup.
- Experience with government schemes/program management, and North-East India ecosystem engagement.
Key Performance Indicators (illustrative)
- Startups admitted/graduated; portfolio survival and follow-on funding rates.
- External funds mobilized (grants, CSR, equity) and programs launched per year.
- Industry/government pilots, paid POCs, and MoUs executed.
- IP filings/licenses facilitated; jobs created; revenue growth of IITG-TIC.
- Occupancy/utilization of facilities; founder NPS; time-to-decision for startup applications.
Terms of Appointment
- Location: IITG TIC, IIT Guwahati Campus, Assam (on-site role; domestic travel as required).
- Employment Type: Full-time; contractual/renewable as per IIT Guwahati norms.
- Compensation: As per institute norms; performance-linked incentives as applicable.
